The word if officially out! Georges St-Pierre is back in the UFC and he also has an opponent set as of Wednesday. UFC President Dana White was the first to brake the news on GSP via an interview on SportsCenter.
Following reports of a new contract deal between the UFC and GSP early last week, a middleweight title bout has been selected for the former reigning welterweight champion. That’s right! St-Pierre will officially square off against Michael Bisping for the 185-pound title. This is fight that Bisping has been lobbying for a while now. Not too long, Bisping called out St-Pierre, and the Canadian accepted the challenge via a post on Instagram.
St-Pierre, 35, is highly regarded as one of the greatest fighters of all time in MMA. While he was the 170-pound champion in the UFC he defeated Johny Hendricks, Nick Diaz, Carlos Condit, Jake Shields, Josh Koscheck, Dan Hardy, and among many others.
A press conference will be held this Friday with both fighters expected to be present. The official fight card number and date is scheduled to be announced shortly.
