The boxing bout between Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather may be finally materializing following months of speculations and verbal punches from both sides on social media. Even UFC President Dana White is changing his stance on the mega fight and recently stated “it’s going to happen” because there’s so much money involved.
With all parties in favor of the fight and Mayweather officially coming out of retirement for McGregor, the Irish sensation took aim at ESPN’s Dan Rafael on St-Patrick’s Day for not believing in his boxing talent.
McGregor said,
You’re the boxing guy? I’m the boxing guy. Watch me take over boxing. Trust me on that. No one in this boxing game knows what’s coming. Trust me on that. When I step in there, I’m going to shock the whole goddamn world. Trust me on that. Look me in the eyes. Twenty-eight years of age, confident as a motherf*cker, long, rangy, dangerous with every hand. Trust me, I’m going to stop Floyd and you’re all going to eat your words. The whole world is going to eat their words.
The heated confrontation took place on Friday night at the long-awaited pro debut of Irish Olympic boxer Michael Conlan in New York at Madison Square Garden. The same place where McGregor made UFC history when achieved his dual-champion status last November when he dethroned Eddie Alvarez for the UFC lightweight title.
According to McGregor, the Mayweather deal is “getting close.”
We’re getting close, don’t worry about it. You’ll hear about it. I’m out of here. I am boxing.
