Conor McGregor’s next fight in combat sport is still in question. There’s no official word from Team McGregor or the UFC on who will face the lucrative fighter in 2018. But there are rumors that the Irishmen received offers from some of boxing’s biggest names.
One of those biggest names is from the greatest pound-for-pound boxers of all time, Manny Pacquiao. Apparently, the Filipino boxer and politician had begun negotiations with McGregor’s team for a boxing fight in 2018. A potential deal that UFC president Dana White isn’t aware of to date. According to White, if the rumor is true, Pacquiao would be sued by the UFC because McGregor is under contract with the promotion.
White said during a post-fight conference at UFC Ferno,
That would be weird because he’s under contract with us. If that’s true, I will be suing Manny Pacquiao and whoever’s representing him, so I’m assuming that’s not true. Yes, [Conor’s next fight is in the UFC].
Bob Arum, who serves as promoter for Pacquiao also mentioned on Saturday evening after the Vasyl Lomachenko vs. Guillermo Rigondeaux boxing match that discussions took place months ago, but nothing is moving forward.
Arum said,
Is it true that Pacquiao reached out to McGregor? Yes, but it’s old news.
I would do it for Manny but for me, if I promoted that fight, I would tell everybody up front, ‘Guess what, it’s not a f**king fight. If you want a spectacle, you can watch it.
