If you’re looking for a new heavy metal band to sink your teeth into, we suggest that you check out Montreal’s Vantablack Warship. This is a band that is heavy, loud, and brutally violent in their sound, but is all about the music and the members visibly love what they do. Combining death metal with thrash metal, elements of hardcore are also evident, as well as something resembling Rage Against the Machine, specifically in the vocal delivery from Yannick Pilon. I’d be remiss if I didn’t say that Vantablack Warship sounds as good live as they do on record.
We caught up with Yannick and bassist Kurtis Clifford at Vantablack Warship’s record release party for their new album, Abrasive Pulmonic Speak, on February 10th. Topics included tour (or lack thereof), the name of the band, how these veterans of the Montreal metal scene came together, Van Halen, and more. Check the interview out in the video player on this page to learn more.
Sample the album here, where you can also order it and other merch. The album follows the band’s 2015 self-titled debut EP. Before you know it, the album will be over and you’ll be hitting play again to restart it.
