UFC 168: Weidman vs. Silva 2 Results And Bonuses – A Weird Night For Mr. Silva

MMA: UFC 168-Weidman vs Silva

UFC 168, arguably the biggest fight card of the year, took place last night in Las Vegas. With two belts on the line, it was well worth the additional $5 charge for pay-per-view, however, the main fight on the card between UFC Middleweight Champion Chris Weidman and Anderson Silva still has me scratching my head.

After watching the bout last night, I literally walked away stupified. I just didn’t believe that Silva lost to Weidman again. Granted, it was a freak accident, and that’s a crappy way to end your MMA career, if that’s what Silva decides to do. Keep in mind, Silva suffered a very serious injury at 1:16 into the second round, he broke his tibia and fibula in his left leg and was sent off to the hospital for immediate surgery. Silva may be out between three and six months, according to the UFC:

Anderson is deeply touched by the outpouring of support from his fans and the entire MMA community. There has been no immediate decision about his future, and he would kindly ask for privacy at this time as he deals with his injury and prepares to return home to recover.

I don’t want to take away antyhing from Weidman’s win last night, who clearly dominated the first round with a takedown after dropping Silva with an overhand right, nearly knocking him out cold like at UFC 162. On the ground, Weidman out struck Silva in full guard and landed a hard punch to solidify the first round. In the second round, Silva was trying to capitalize on leg kicks, but Weidman checked the last kick that broke Silva’s leg in two, winning the bout by TKO.

A sad way to go for the former middleweight champion and it may be his last fight in the UFC. Weidman is moving on with the strap and 11 straight wins, he will face Vitor Belfort in the new year.
