It’s finally official! UFC President Dana White announced that Anderson Silva and Nick Diaz will return inside the Octagon before next year. Both will square off in a five round middleweight bout at UFC 183 on January 31st, and best of all, the fight will take place in Las Vegas, Nevada, on Super Bowl weekend.
White broke the news on Tuesday via ESPN’s SportsCenter:
The greatest off all-time, Anderson Silva, is back. His doctor gave him clearance to fight. The fight the fans have been waiting for, the fight the fans have been screaming for… also back is Nick Diaz, so we have made Anderson Silva vs. Nick Diaz January 31st in Las Vegas. It will be the main event and it will be five rounds.
White also dropped his thoughts about both fighters:
He’s [Anderson Silva] 100% healthy. He’s kicking again and he feels great. He’s chomping at the bit to get back into the Octagon. Nick Diaz is a very popular fighter. If he comes in and beats Anderson Silva, he could fight for the title. He’s right in there. It would be a huge, huge win for him.
I know lots of you saw this in the making since it was talked about a lot over the past few months, and I’m 100% sure it’s going to be the fight of the year because their fighting style is practically identical.
We’ll be sure to keep you guys updated on UFC 183: Silva vs. Diaz in the coming months as more news will be announced by the UFC leading up to the big event in January.
