UFC 183 Main Event Could Be In Jeopardy, Nick Diaz Arrested For Suspicious DUI

UFC 183

For those hoping to see Nick Diaz square off with Anderson Silva in a middleweight bout early next year, get ready to hear some disappointing news that could possibly put an end to that match up, which is currently scheduled as the main event for UFC 183.

Over the past weekend, Diaz was arrested in California for charges of suspicion of DUI, obstructing a police officer, destruction of evidence and driving with a suspended license, according to a confirmed report today by MMA Fighting. At 2:20 am on Saturday, Sept. 6, Corporal Eric Bradley placed Diaz under arrest while driving down the 600 block of East Pine Street, where he was later processed at Lodi City Jail.

The Lodi Police Department stated that Diaz was given the option to submit a breath or blood test for his DUI level. Diaz accepted a breath sample without any resistances. However, after being allowed to use a restroom, Diaz attempted to use this opportunity to vomit several times and in the process ignored commands from the officer.

The former retired UFC mixed martial artist was released the same morning, but is now expected to make an appearance in court shortly.

The UFC recently commented on the arrest incident and most likely won’t punish Diaz until he is proven guilty:

We are aware of the situation and are in the process of gathering the facts. We understand that there is a legal process that will now take place and that Nick Diaz will have the opportunity to address the situation in the near future.

Knowing Diaz’s past problems in the UFC, do you think his fight with Anderson Silva will be canceled for UFC 183?
