Former reigning UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva still doesn’t have an opponent set for 2017, but the Brazilian definitely has someone in mind.
Silva, 42, went to a decision after a five-round contest with Nick Diaz at UFC 183 two and a half years ago. He won the highly-anticipated middleweight bout by unanimous decision, however, it was later overturned for testing positive for the steroid Drostanolone — the same banned substance he tested positive for during an out-of-competition test taken on January 9, 2015.
Now he wants a rematch to settle the score once and for all. On Monday, Silva revealed his interest in Diaz again via a post on Instagram. Also claiming it was one of “the best fights in the history of this sport.”
He wrote,
I believe this was one of the best fights in the history of this sport,” Silva wrote of the UFC 183 main event. “With all my respect Nick. Let’s show how it’s done. I will wait your reply, maximum respect to the Diaz family.
Diaz hasn’t competed inside the Octagon since UFC 183. The Stockton bad boy is currently serving a provisionally suspension for not filing out his whereabouts so he can be tested by USADA. He also hasn’t showed much interest in returning anytime soon.
